This site supports the Guilford Education
Alliance "Engineering Connections"
Partnership. Its purpose is to develop
Skills for 21st Economy by bringing
"Real Life" into the classroom
through
Lunch & Learn/Classroom Connection,
and
Staff Development
Sessions;
Job
Shadowing, and
Field Trips.
The pilot program started on 9/12/08 with
Brad Kemmerer, President - ABCO conducting
the initial Classroom Connection
sessions at Weaver Academy. During the
Fall 2008, eleven Lunch & Learn/Classroom
Connection sessions
were held for students; also a staff
development session was held for teachers
and staff. During the Spring 2009
seven Lunch & Learn/Classroom Connection sessions
were held for students; and a pilot Job
Shadowing of a student from Ragsdale High
School. The individual sessions
conducted are identified on the
Schedule

page.
Thanks to representatives
from
Industry Partner and
Schools

of Industry and Education participants are
identified on the
Guilford Education Alliance Engineering
Connections Participants
page. The
Engineering Connections Team
is includes representatives from
Guilford Education Alliance,
IEEE
Central NC Section and
Schools.
The
Lunch & Learn/Classroom Connection
format has proven to be a effective means to
bring
"Real Life" into the
classroom; it is a format that could be used
for other ways to bridge the classroom and
industry besides Engineering.
Participants comments (most interesting and
other) are captured in the
Comments
Page.
Our Next Steps include plans for continuing
format for 2009-2010 in Guilford County Schools. We are
hoping to expand the program to include more
Industries and Schools. In addition
Job Shadowing of Students and Teachers is
planned.
