This site supports the Guilford Education Alliance "Engineering Connections" Partnership.  Its purpose is to develop Skills for 21st Economy by bringing "Real Life" into the classroom through Lunch & Learn/Classroom Connection, and Staff Development Sessions;  and Job Shadowing/Mentoring.

EC ChartThe pilot program started on 9/12/08 with Brad Kemmerer, President - ABCO conducting the initial Classroom Connection sessions at Weaver Academy.  The Report presented to the Guilford Education Alliance Board on May 20, 2009 documents the 2008-2009 Engineering Connections Activities.

The chart at right shows the various facets of the IEEE/GEA Engineering Connections; click on the image for a PDF version.

Thanks to representatives from  Industry Partner and Schools for their support of pilot period.  A list of Industry and Education participants for the 2008-2009 school year are identified on the Guilford Education Alliance Engineering Connections Participants page.  The Engineering Connections Team includes representatives from Guilford Education Alliance, IEEE Central NC Section and Schools.

The Lunch & Learn/Classroom Connection format has proven to be a effective means to bring "Real Life" into the classroom; it is a format that could be used for other ways to bridge the classroom and industry besides Engineering.

Some participants comments (most interesting and other) are captured in the Comments Page.

The Engineering Connections continued the Lunch&Learn and Classroom Connections format for 2010-2011 in Guilford County Schools.  A Transistion Report documents the 2008-2011 program.  There were 8 Education Partners and 11 Industry Partners which conducted 72 person sessions.  Six person sessions were held at Jackson Middle School, all others were conducted at Middle Colleges, Weaver Academy and High Schools.  5/5/2011

The Entrepreneur Productive Innovative Engine (PIE) Teams concept was used as an introduction (approximately 5-10 minutes) of guest speakers in the 2011 Spring Semester.  PIE Teams is a way to expand the domain knowledge areas from Engineering (Design and Development) and Technology (Manufacturing/Service) hats to include Customer (Marketplace), Scientist (Research), Logistics (Global Supply Chain) and Business (Entrepreneur) Hats.  The PIE Team concept showed how the guest domain knowledge fits into the PIE Team and student career options.    The PIE Team framework gives students a means for improving relevance of school subjects to the real world. 5/5/2011
